missing features simplelist

Here are things that simplelist will not do, as these are not required for simple lists, and would complicate the software. If your needs seem complex, consider the alternatives.

  1. No list hosting at simplelist website. Simplelist is free software not a free service, and is designed so you can create lists using your own domain name and server. You need to install simplelist on your own Perl-enabled server, or find someone else who has installed it on their server if you want to setup a list.

  2. No list member usernames or passwords to remember/forget. Each user uses only their email address to access their settings, and an email confirmation loop (to validate their email address) can set a long-term cookie to authenticate them in the future. If no cookie, they are simply re-validated by mail loop each time they try to make an account change.

  3. No email responders for subscribe and unsubscribe etc. These are outdated and painful. For example, privacy concerned people always signup for mailing lists with coded addresses (e.g., user+amazon@example.com is a legitimate email address), but when mailing lists only offer you the option to send email to some special unsubscribe alias to remove yourself, it makes it difficult in these cases. Instead of having responders, see our simplelist-signature feature.

  4. No digest options. (Maybe later.)

  5. Maybe no extra dozen mail headers. Instead, see the simplelist-signature feature.

  6. No automatic bounce management. If someone sends email and it bounces, the bounce will go to the list owner, who can decide when to remove a broken email alias. (Maybe we'll add this later.)
