simplelist is a free, easy-to-use, anti-spam, open-source mailing list manager (MLM) with only a simple set of features.
To use simplelist, you will need the following folks. (One or more of these roles might be played by one person.)
- Linux admin to install/configure/manage simplist on their server. The install will require root access. (This requires a skilset similar to doing install/configure/manage of an Apache webserver.)
- List manager is someone who has their own website and domain (e.g., dogclub.org) on the Linux server where simplelist is installed. This person will be able to (a) setup new lists, e.g., walkers@dogclub.org and (b) manage the members and policies of each list.
- List members are non-technical users who simply want to browse the list of public email lists on a given server, see a description and owner of each list, be able to request addition to the list, and be able to click a simple "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of each message sent to the list in case they later want to unsubscribe.
You can think of simpelist as a simple version of Yahoo Groups or Googl Groups, except (a) it only does email (b) you can use it on your own website with your URL (c) there are no ads (d) there is simple web-based management for members.
